Great interview and great guest! I learned quite a bit.

Is it possible you didn't talk about MMR for a reason other than time or not remembering to include it? Josh play-tested the game a couple weeks ago. Not to mention just being able hear his take on the reproduction of a classic game -- especially given your well-documented hot and cold affair with the remake.

Interested to know Josh isn't allowed, or maybe doesn't want, to talk about it publicly, beyond a few comments on the Pinside thread.

Good catch... We did discuss it after we were "off the air". The show ran long and we didn't just didn't get to that bullet point.... Without speaking for Josh, he seemed positive on the project.

Josh’s opinion about new games being too complex for new players was very interesting. He is the first person I have heard say that games need to be easier. I think he is right, and I think it is also true that these new players will be vital for the future of pinball.

At my current skill level, Twilight Zone is more disappointing than fun. The main shots in Twilight Zone are at the very back, and cause novice players to drain quickly. Even the skill shot in TZ seems like a trap. I know the game does some cool stuff, but I have never been able to activate any of it.

Lately, the local game that I have most enjoyed is Family Guy. I think Family Guy is a great example of a somewhat newer game that is great for beginners.

- The rules are pretty simple, they are spelled out on the playfield, and the modes are easy to understand.
- The main shot (the left spinner), is very forgiving to missed shots
- The cool toy/gimmick of the game, Stewie Pinball, can be activated pretty easily and safely by a novice player
- The player can activate a ball save post with two shots
- If the first two balls are abysmal, a multi-ball can be activated with one shot on the third ball

Family Guy is not the deepest game on the block, but a new player can walk up to the game on location, and pretty quickly activate the cool toy, and probably start a multi-ball. It’s really encouraging to someone that wouldn’t get to see the cool stuff in a deeper game.

What other games would you recommend to beginners?
